100 West 81st Street

Engineer: Anthony Accardo, P.E. Accardo Engineering
This five-story, stucco apartment building, a former hat factory, is situated on the corner of Columbus Avenue and 81st Street, overlooking the block where Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade balloons annually come to life. Over the years the five balconies on the east side of the building had begun to fall apart and chunks of the stucco and metal precipices were tumbling perilously to the ground.

Herbert Rose, Inc. was awarded the contract to install new balconies and stop the leaks. The original drawings were strictly followed, at first. But after consulting with the engineer on some useful modifications, Herbert Rose, Inc was able to complete the project in an exceptionally timely manner and the new balconies were made even stronger than the original.

Moreover, because of the successful collaboration between the Hebert Rose, Inc. team and a knowledgeable engineer, the job was finished just in time for the holidays and the residents were once again able to watch the giant balloons being blown up on the eve of Thanksgiving – from their own balconies!
